Be sure to visit our innaugaral exhibition at the Shasta Historical Society at the North entrance to the Downtown Redding Mall. These items are just a sample of what is to come at RVM.

 

The Redding Veterans Museum & Heritage Center is a 501(c)3 Non-Profit corporation that exists for the sole purpose of collecting and maintaining Military memorabilia from the Northern California area and using it to educate. We are just beginning the process of collecting Military artifacts and we are looking for Sponsors as well as individual items for display in the Museum. The Museum and Heritage Center will also be participating in the Library of Congress Veterans History Project and educating the community.

Our exhibits will cover The period from the War of 1812 through the present day War on Terrorism as well as California's influence during these periods.

Below are listed the various galleries that are planned for the Museum.

WORLD WAR I GALLERY:

This exhibit would cover what prompted the United States to enter the war. It would contain artifacts, uniforms, types of warfare that were used at that time and begin the progression of how warfare has changed since the days of Trench Warfare and Mustard Gas.

WORLD WAR II GALLERY:

This exhibit might well be the largest exhibit in the museum. The broad spectrum of World War II could be presented in chronological order starting with the pre-war mentality and the bombing of Pearl Harbor, the fall ofthe Philippines, D-Day, the European Theater, The Battle for the Pacific, Women in World War II, The Atomic Bomb, War's end.

KOREAN WAR GALLERY:

This exhibit can feature the often-called "Forgotten War," over 57,000 Americans lost their lives defending South Korea from the Communist forces of North Korea and China. The Korean Conflict Gallery may feature special exhibits about the breakout from the Chosin Reservoir, Mig Alley and the US Airpower, weapons and equipment of the Korean Conflict.

VIETNAM WAR GALLERY:

This gallery will trace the Vietnam War from its beginning in the 50s to the fall of Saigon 1975 and the success of Viet Nam today, because of our influence of Freedom to the Vietnamese. Items featured will include Jungle Warfare, weapons and equipment, lifesized diorama of a helicopter MEDIVAC scene and POW/MIA exhibit, prisoner of war cell from the infamous Hanoi Hilton. Special features would include Air Warfare, Special Ops and River Operations.

THE GULF WAR GALLERY:

When Iraq invaded Kuwait in 1990, the US led coalition forces to counter the threat posed to the Kuwaitis and the world's oil supply by the Iraq dictator Saddam Hussein. Features here may include weapons and equipment of the Gulf War (Operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm). Including a scene where Iraqi Soldiers are surrendering to US Forces.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

NOBLE EAGLE and ENDURING FREEDOM:

This exhibit will be an exhibit in motion reflecting on the Soldiers and Sailors that are currently deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan fighting the war on terror and across the globe protecting our freedom today.

Special exhibits:

THE WAR AGAINST TERROISM:

This exhibit will follow the terrorist threat against the United States form the first attack against the World Trade Center, attack on the USS Cole and the attack on the US Embassies in Africa through September 11, 2001.

THE PURPLE HEART GALLERY:

This gallery will feature California recipients of the Purple Heart, both for wounds suffered from enemy action and death due to enemy action. Individual stories would be featured and rotated quarterly.

THE CONGRESSIONAL MEDAL OF HONOR GALLERY:

The Medal of Honor monument and exhibit would be housed separately featured in the Museum's Courtyard. This area will hold displays of Califomia's Medal of Honor recipients, men and women who have earned America's greatest tribute.

FINANCIAL SUPPORT, GRANTS, COMMUNITY FUND RAISING/ ORGANIZED FUND RAISING:

At this time RVM is a grass roots idea looking for community support from local Veterans Service Organizations, Redding City Council leaders, Shasta County Supervisors, Congressional Support as well as State and National backing.
